It’s Groundhog Day again and again and again…

Every week we try to give you something to think about while you smoke a premium handmade cigar from Tabanero’s. Today it’s brought to you by Groundhog Day the day a Midwestern rodent informs the world whether or not winter will continue. Ok, so it’s really only America because this would only happen here, after all they only live here. Plus it isn’t even winter in Australia or Peru. So yeah, Groundhog Day is an American thing. And only in America was a movie made is connected in some way to the day.

You might remember the movie. It starred Bill Murray as a grumpy weatherman who is sent to Punxsutawney to report on whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow. When he wakes up the next day it is Groundhog Day again. He keeps waking up to the same day for almost ten years. We know what you’re thinking: ‘What’s the point?’ We don’t have one, we just thought the movie was good. Just kidding, the point is that his character kept living the same day over and over until he made changes in who he was and how he was living his life.

how many of us are stuck in Groundhog Day? any of us is capable of letting our dreams slip away until, like that weatherman, we become bitter and cynical. Maybe we have gotten stuck into a routine in which every day seems like the last. Possibly we have even begun to see the people in our lives as part of that same routine. We do the same things, eat the same foods, see the places, have the same conversations. What happened to our dreams? What happened to the person we dreamed we would be?

The truth is nothing will change if nothing changes.

We don’t have to quit our jobs, change our relationships, or move to a different place to make changes. The real change happens inside of us. The first step is awareness. Almost every job has value, has meaning. If we understand how what we do has purpose it can transform the mundane into the sublime. the pattern of working for the weekend is broken. Every day has meaning, has adventure, has beauty.

It is often the case that we become comfortable with the people in our lives. That comfortable familiarity can easily turn into quiet contempt. If we stop and remember the reasons why we came to love that person in the first place, it can rekindle the our passion for our partners, our friends, and our family.

We are but a humble cigar boutique, but hopefully we have given you something to think about while you enjoy one of our premium cigars. Have a wonderful Groundhog Day our friends and remember to keep it lit.
