A Man for Tomorrow

We are beginning a new series – we have several going at the same time.  We hope it will be powerful, maybe even life-changing. We also hope we do not offend anyone.

Let us suppose that topics were bodies of water.  There are serene lakes upon over which gentle winds caress the surface creating smooth ripples.  Ah, can you feel the peace? There are oceans, so wide the eye cannot comprehend it’s breadth. So vast that the moon creates tides from which rise and fall waves that beat out the eternal heartbeat of the earth.  Then are rivers, rivers that begin as drops of rain falling from stormy skies. They fall alone in the heights of mountains. As they journey downward over stone and dirt, they gather together forming trickles. Those trickles gather to form creeks.  Always growing in size and speed, those creeks turn to rivers. Those rivers move down the mountain in power becoming forces that cut through stone in headlong rush to ocean.

Did we lose you there for minute?  Yeah, we are stilling talking about topics.  This new topic is a river with swift rapids and the ability to cut new pathways through rocky barriers.  We are talking about…

Masculinity.

Like the river in our analogy, this topic was born from a storm and is gathering force as it moves down the mountain.  Again let us say that we do not wish to offend anyone. The hope is that we can all talk together. That we can share, no matter our gender, the ideal of masculinity that was forged in our childhood, our thoughts on what it means today, and our aspirations for what it can be in the future.

How do you define it?  The dictionary has this to say:

mas·cu·lin·i·ty (maskyəˈlinədē)

definition: possession of the qualities traditionally associated with men.

synonyms: virility, manliness, maleness, machismo, vigor, strength, muscularity, ruggedness, robustness;

We want to hear from you.  We will be sharing our thoughts on this topic in the coming months.  Let us say it again, this will be made meaningful with your voice in the discussion.  That can happen by making comments here or on Tabanero’s social media.  It can also happen when you come down to the shop on seventh to light up a hand made cigar and fire up the conversion around our comfortable leather chairs.

Let’s talk.
